Five
years ago today we were gathered at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue
Springs welcoming the newest family member – Happy Birthday, Miss
Jocelyn!! I hope you are having a wonderful day! We're looking
forward to enjoying your family birthday party Saturday at Chuck E.
Cheese!
It's
been just a gorgeous day, but it's the type of day that lets you know
fall has definitely arrived. For the first time, I had to put on a
sweater when we took our morning walk in the park. The car
thermometer said it was 50 then, and of course it wasn't reaching
that in the shade. It made for a nice, brisk walk!
The
afternoon is already half over, and I'm not sure what I accomplished
today. We did our usual morning podcasts, I started laundry, and we
took our walk. After we got back, I put a bunch of new recipes in the
computer for my “Brenda's Recipe of the Week” blog. We had lunch
and got the dishes done. After taking a break to watch my favorite
show at noon, I finished up the recipes and then took my afternoon
walk. We did take the air conditioner out of the bedroom
window.......it's easy to put back in if we should have another heat
spell!
I
started working on Christmas ornaments. For several years, I've made
all the kids, kid-in-laws and grandkids ornaments every year for
Christmas – Mom, too. I've done several different types, but my
usual is counted cross stitch. I finished the first one this
afternoon.......which was pretty good, considering these are the
ornaments I bought for Christmas 2012!!
I
got sidetracked, to say the least, last year. I decided in late
October, when I hadn't even started the first ornament, that
something else would be done last year. We were spending a late few
days in Branson, and I found ornaments at the old-fashioned Five And
Dime store there. They were cute, and I even got credit for making
them! I was honest and told the kids where they were from. (I wish I
were that talented – they were hand painted on metal.)
Somewhere
between January 1 and today, I'd done most of the first
ornament.....I pulled the supplies out this afternoon and finished
that first one and started the second one. I only need to do 12, so
hopefully I can manage that before Christmas!! I am realizing,
though, even with my new glasses the tiny counted cross stitch is a
challenge. Hmmm. Can't imagine why – I'm sure it's not because I'm
on the downhill side of 60 now?? I may have to learn a new hobby!
We're
really enjoying our being home together all the time – but I really
don't know where the time goes. Oh, yes, I'm definitely getting
older! Every day flies by faster than the one before. Knowing our
“baby” is five years old today doesn't help me feel any younger!
Maybe it's no wonder I'm not getting things done – I don't have
nearly as much time in a day as I used to!
